Volumetric weight converts the space occupied by a shipment into a calculated weight that can be compared with its actual gross weight.

In air freight, package volume is converted into kilograms using a tariff-specific factor. A common example for centimetre measurements is length × width × height divided by 6,000. The factor stated in the specific quotation or carrier tariff remains decisive.
Why does it matter?
Incorrect dimensions change the chargeable weight and therefore the price. Space requirements are especially relevant for cartons, insulated packaging and non-stackable pallets.
