Minimum charge in air freight pricing

Definition

Under a minimum charge, the result of rate multiplied by chargeable weight is compared with a tariff minimum. If the calculated freight is lower, the minimum applies. Handling, screening, pickup or customs fees may be additional and may have separate minima.

Why does it matter?

Small shipments can appear cheaper than they are when only a per-kilogram rate is shown. A reliable comparison must include minimum amounts and all separate charge lines.
